The Directorate of Factories and Boilers administers two central enactments i.e.(1) The Factories Act, 1948 and(2) The Indian Boilers, Act, 1923 and the following Rules and Regulations made there under:(3)The Odisha Factories Rules, 1950(4)The Odisha Factories (Control of Major Accident Hazard) Rules, 2001(5) Indian Boiler Regulations, 1950(6) Odisha Boiler Attendants' Rules, 1956(7) Odisha Boiler Rules, 1971(8) Odisha Boiler Operation Engineers Rules, 2000
The Factories Act, 1948 is basically aimed at ensuring safety, health and welfare of the workers working in factories of the State, whereas the Indian Boilers Act, Rules and Regulations made there under regulate the design, quality during manufacturing, erection, operation, repair and maintenance of boiler in order to ensure safety at workplace.
Besides the above, the Directorate generates safety and health awareness among the factory workers by way of conducting seminars, training programmes, periodical health check up of workers, etc.
