Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims and Objective of the Organisation:
This main aims and objectives of the District Information and Public Relations Office is to disseminate information about the various policies, programmes of the govt. The basic idea is to keep the people informed and create an effective two-way system between the public and the Govt. for which the department works in various ways such as press services, exhibition, film shows , group talks, library service, cultural programmes etc.
2. Mission / Vision:
After independence this department played a major role in disseminating information about the new form of Govt and the making the public aware of the changes happening around affecting the time, life and society as a whole. After a long and oppressive British Rule, it was call of the time to spread the message of democracy and democratic values, constitution concept of welfare Govt and visionary blue print of future India.
3. Brief History And Background for the Establishment:
Information and Public Relations department as a separate wing of the Govt in functioning in Puri District since 1952. It is called Dist. Information nd Public Relations Office. Since its inception it has a glorious past records in terms of quality work and personnel. The department has modern techniques and approach, keeping the modes and ideas in fact.
4. Organisation of Charts:
The Office consists of one district office headed by Dist. Information and Public Relations Officer and assisted by the Sub. Divisional Information and Public Relations Officer, Sr. Clerk , Projectionists, One Driver, one Orderly and one peon. It has one information centre-cum-Reading Room consisting of one Librarian one literate peon & one Night watcher. Similarly it has three more Information Centers cum Reading Rooms at Sakhigopal, Konark and Pipili. No Information a Public Relations staff has been engaged in these I.C-cum-R.R s due to non-sanction of concerned posts. Besides, this one Information Centre is functioning at Lions Gate, Puri with the help of only one Operator.
5. Allocation of Business.
D.I.& P.R.O. is the head of Office who supervises and co-ordinates all Public Relations activities of the department. The main duties of S.D.I & P.R.O is to attend review meetings as well as public meetings of V.V.I.P's / V.I.Ps on behalf of D.I.& P.R.O. as per time programme needed to make press release. In addition to these, he is in charge of publicity, organization of celebrations, sale of Utkal Prasang, and Odisha Review etc. Sr. Clerk is in charge of making the Bills, Budgets and all account matters. Store keeper is in charge of all store materials and various priced publications supplied by I & P.R. Deptt. such as Utkal Prasang, Odisha Review, Bhajan, Odisha Reference Annual etc. The post of store keeper is laying vacant after retirement of Sri D. Mohapatra. So the clerk Librarian is in charge of Jr. Store Keeper. Projectionist is in charge of arranging Audio & Visual system and publicity. Librarian of I.C. cum- R.R. is in charge of library Books, newspapers and periodicals. He is to enroll members for Library and to issue books tot he members. The Projectionist of Information Centre, Lions Gate, Puri is in charge of public announcement, making arrangements for broadcasting Radio and telecasting of T.V. news through public address system and sale of priced publications.
6. Duties to be Performed to Activate the Mission:
With an aim to active the mission of land P.R. department the D.,I. & P.R.O. Office is performing duties through various means, such as arranging and attending various V.I.P. meeting , organising group talks, collecting success stories and publishing them through Utkal Prasang, Odisha Review, organising various cultural programmes, such as Palla, Daskathia, Ghodanacha, etc. organising and celebrating various national and state level function and Jayanties such as Independence Day, Republic Day, Odisha Day, Akshya Urja Diwas, Gandhi Jayanti, Gopanbandhu Jayanti, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, Jaya Rajguru Jayanti, Chakhi Khuntia Jayanti, Disaster Preparedness Day, Analanavami Festival, Chandrabhaga Mela, Car Festival etc.
7. Details of Service Rendered:
Since its inception in 1952, the D.I. & P.R.O. Office has rendered great service towards disseminating information to the people through group talks, arranging public meetings, film shows and cultural shows, sale of Utkal Prasang, Odisha Review, Press release, Press clippings . It also announces important information like flood, cyclones etc and aware public through mike publicity.
8. Citizens Interaction:
The Office interacts with public through group discussions. It passes necessary information to the public and at the same time collects public opinion about different schemes.
