Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims and Objective of the Organization:
Promotion of Cottage & Village Industries, Handicrafts, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in the district. Identification of potential entrepreneur and provide all sorts of first aid inputs and logistic support for establishment of industries. Acts as a liasoning agency between other service provider and stakeholders in promotion of industries. It implements various self employment programme for educated unemployed youth and administer different kind of incentives provided under Industrial Policy of Government.
2. Mission/ Vision:
The mission of the D.I.C. is to eradicate unemployment problems among educated youths, utilization of natural resources and skill up-gradation of artisans. In the next five-year plan, it is proposed to establish as many as 500 Small Scale Enterprises, 1000 Village & Cottage Industries and trained 1000 Artisans for establishment of Micro Enterprises.
3. Brief History and Background for its Establishment:
The D.I.C. came into being during the year 2000 after bifurcation of erstwhile Koraput District, to provide various support services for potential entrepreneurs under single roof. Accordingly different wings like Small Scale, Credit, and Cottage & Handicrafts etc. are created in DIC and manned by experienced Officers. The DIC acts as a promotional agency and provides services as per the guidelines of State Industries Directorate and Industries Department of Government.
4. Allocation of Business:
The DIC acts as a promotional agency as such no work is executed directly through DIC. However, physical target on establishment of SSI, Village & Cottage Industries, Handicrafts Training etc. are allotted among the IPOs to achieve in a particulars year.
5. Duties to be performed to achieve the Mission.
As outlined in the foregoing paras the DIC Officials including General Manager, Assistant Managers, Industrial Supervisor and IPOs perform duties as per the guidelines of Directorate of Industries. The Collector & District Magistrate is the administrative authority as District level and the Director of Industries is the Controlling authority at the State level. The Assistant Manager including IPOs assist the General Manager in over all industrial development of the District.
6. Details of Service Rendered:
Since inception of DIC around 287 Micro & Small Enterprises have been established in the District. Under PMRY Scheme, 1070 candidates have been given financial assistance to set up their business during 1999-2000 to 2007-08. Around 607 Handicraft Artisans have been trained by DIC for their skill up-gradation. As many as 287 Small Scale Industries were set up with an investment of Rs. 672.21 lakhs and generating employment opportunity to about 2880 people. About 287 Small Scale Units were registered.
7. Citizens' Interaction:
The DIC represents in various Campaigns and meetings like Jana Sampark Sibir, Focus on Village programme, Self Employment Council Camps, Workshop on PMEGP etc. at Block level where in interaction between the citizens takes place and their opinion obtained for the better implementation of Industrial programmes.
