Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1) Aims & Objectives of the Organization:
DIC was created in the year 1978 with following objective.
a) Promotion of Small Scale Industries in the District Level for effective utilization of the local raw materials and generation of employment.
b) Promotion of Handicraft & Cottage Industries through skill up gradation of the local artisans.
c) Up-liftment of the economic standard of the urban as well as rural people through implementation of various self employment programmes.
2) Mission/ Vision:
The mission & vision of D.I.C is to:
a) Generate employment and uplift the economical status of the inhabitants of the district by setting up Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.
b) To provide employment in Industry, service sectors through Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) scheme.
c) Implementation of Subsidy linked Programmes like Rehabilitation of Handicraft Artisans (RHA), RHA under Coir Sector and Handicraft Enterprises
3) Brief History & Background for its Establishment:
The District Industries Centre, Puri is functioning at Chakratirtha Road in Puri Town. Sri Subash Chandra Pani, IAS was appointed as the 1st General Manager of DIC, Puri. 3331 Nos. of Small scale industries have been promoted under DIC, Puri since 1978 with an investment of Rs.11511.06 Lakh generating employment to 17,373 persons. Similarly 6053 Nos. of beneficiaries have set up their ventures under PMRY scheme providing Employment to 12,921 person. Under REGP Sector, 248 Industries have been promoted Generating Employment to 3,222 persons.
4) Duties of the Public Authority:
To uplift the economical status of the inhabitants of Puri district and to provide employment opportunity by establishment of Small Scale Industries, Ancillary units and to provide self employment through PMEGP Scheme, R.H.A Scheme and Craft Village Scheme. The General Manager, DIC, Puri is taking effective steps to fulfill the target under different schemes through Block level Industries Promotion Officers.
5) Main Activities/ Function of the Public Authority:
The Main Activities of the DIC is outlined as below:
a) Identification of potential entrepreneurs at Block/ NAC/ Municipality level.
b) Tagging up the entrepreneurs with viable projects.
c) Grant of Entrepreneurs Memorandum Part-I to the entrepreneurs.
d) Preparation of Project Report of the MSMES.
e) Forwarding of Loan proposals of the MSME to the financial Institutions and pursuance at Bank level.
f) Extension of R & D facilities to the Entrepreneurs.
g) Imparting EDP (Entrepreneurship Development Programme) training to the 1st Generation entrepreneurs.
h) Recommendation for Allotment of Govt. Land in favour of MSMES.
i) Conducting Market Survey for feasible industries.
j) Providing assistance to the MSMES in getting various incentives like Interest Subsidy, VAT Reimbursement, Electricity Duty Exemption, Exemption of Premium for conversion of the status of the land and other incentives as admissible under different IPRs.
k) Implementation of programmes like meant for Eradication of Unemployment and Generation of employment in the society.
