Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims and Objectives of the Organization:

   In a democratic set up it is through the election that the electors express their choices of the candidate to represent them. For which the Election Commission of India is the apex body who plays the vital role in the process of free and fare election to provide a transferable from of Democracy to the people as per the Rules and Regulation of the representation of the People Act, 1951 and Conduct of Election Rules 1961.

   For the smooth conduct of election at the level of District administration the Collector and the District Election Officer has the overall responsibility and the District Election Machinery under the command and control of the Collector and District Election Officer plays a vital role on ensuring the purity of electoral process and the smooth conduct of elections.

2. Brief History & Backgroung of its Establishment:

   Angul District has been created with effect from 01.04.1993 after bifurcation of the mother District of Dhenkanal as per Revenue Department Notification No.14218/ R. Dt. 27.03.1993. The District territorially covers a portion of 03-Sambalpur Parliamentary Constituency and 09-Dhenkanal Parliamentary Constituency. As per delimitation order two Assembly segments namely 62-Chhendipada (SC) & 63-Athamallik of 03-Sambalpur Parliamentary Constituency and three Assembly segments namely 59-Pallahara, 60-Talcher & 61-Angul of 09-Dhenkanal Parliamentary Constituency of Angul District.

3. Duties to be performed to achieved the Mission:

i) Enrollment of names of eligible electors in the photo Electoral Rolls.
ii) Issue of Elector's Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to eligible electors
iii) Conduct of general Election to house people & Legislative Assembly in free & fair manner.
