 Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

[Section-4 (1) (b) (i)] 

1)  Aim & Objectives of the Public Authority:

Home Department is entrusted with administration of police services, like maintenance of law and order, prevention & control of crimes, prosecution of criminals, Fire Services and Prison administration. The Home Department is also entrusted with the administration of State Secretariat Services, like Common Cadres of Assistants, Typists, Stenographers, Personal Assistants and Private Secretaries. Civil Defence and Home Guards services are also being looked after in Home Department. It is closely connected with the conduct of elections to Parliament and State Legislature. It maintains liaison with Defence Services for Military and Civil co-operation and for setting up defence projects in the State. The Protocol and management of State Guest House at Bhubaneswar, Odisha Bhawan and Odisha Niwas at New Delhi and Utkal Bhawan at Kolkata are also the responsibilities of Home Department.

2. The organization chart of the officers, in descending hierarchy, is indicated below:

(i) Principal Secretary to Government.
(ii) Special Secretary to Government, (I.P.S. cadre).
(iii) Additional Secretaries to Government.
(iv) Joint Secretaries to Government.
(v) Deputy Secretaries to Government.
(vi) Under Secretaries to Government.

3. Working Hours both for Office& Public:

Normal working hours both for office and public, except Sunday and public holiday, is from 10.00 A.M. to 05.00 P.M.

4.  Grievance & Redressal Mechanism:

The grievance of public is heard on every Saturday (if it is not a holiday) by the Principal Secretary.
