1) Brief History of the Public Authority:
The foundation stone of this prestigious District Headquarters Hospital, Sambalpur was laid on 21st September 1939 by Sir John Austen Hubbach, ICS the first Governor of Odisha. Since then the hospital building has passed through various stages of renovations and expansions and has come to the prsent level.
Undivided Sambalpur district comprised of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh and Sambalpur having 7 Subdivisions under its control. They were Sambalpur Sadar Sub division, Kuchinda Sub-division, Rairakhol Sub-division, Jharsuguda Sub-division, Bargarh Sub-division and Padampur Sub-division.
With the creation of new districts in the Year 1994 the area of the district and no. of institutions have changed. Now the Sambalpur Sadar Sub-division having 9 Blocks under their control.
The hospital is organized by Chief District Medical Officer, Sambalpur with the help of wing officers known as Assistant District Medical Officer (Medical), Assistant District medical Officer (Public Health), Assistant District Medical Officer (Family Welfare & Immunization), District Tuberculosis Officer, District Malaria Officer, District Program Manager, National Rural Health Mission. These wing officers work under the control of Chief District Medical Officer, Sambalpur.
Besides there are 9 (nine) block level Primary Health Center (PHC)/ Community Health Center (CHC) Where Medical Officer are responsible for maintaining these organizations and they are answerable to the Chief District Medical Officer, Sambalpur for all kinds of Health and Family Welfare activities. At present the following officers and Health institutions are functioning under the control of Chief District Medical Officer, Sambalpur.
