1. Aims and Objectives of the Organization:

The aim and objective of this Directorate is to undertake flights of VIPs and high dignitaries for quick performance of Official work at remote places in the State, to attend natural calamities and to tackle naxalite and law & order.

2. Mission & Vision:

Apart from VIP flying operation this Directorate maintains "Govt. Aviation Training Institute" (G.A.T.I.) for Pupils Pilot training activities imparting to make their career as Commercial Pilot. Present GATI is being functioning under PPP mode. GATI has been approved by the DGCA, New Delhi and any Student having +2 Science (P.C.M.) Certificate can apply to under take Pilot's training course by paying requisite fee. The detailed guideline, medical requirement etc. can be obtained from FII Capt. 3. Brief History & Background of its Establishment:

The Directorate of Aviation was created in the Year 1962 and was functioning under C & T (Transport) Department and thereafter has been taken to the Administrative control of G.A. Department in the Year 1998-99.

This Directorate comes under Govt. of Odisha; Rules & Regulations is being followed as per Govt. norms. DGCA. New Delhi is the licensing authority of this Directorate, hence instruction and guidelines is also followed from time, to time.

6. Duties to be performed to achieve the Mission:

The State Government co-ordinates with PPP partner for smooth functioning; of Pilot training Institute, wherein People of Odisha will be benefited. This is being a technical Organization, in Aviation sector, permission of flight I operation am development of 19 airstrips spread across 15 Dist. excluding; Biju Pattnaik Airport, Bhubaneswar (12 are owned by State Govt.) are under I taken by this Directorate. Steps are being taken for construction of new airstrip at Malkangiri and other places, wherein this Directorate gives suitable guide lines to the Engineering personnel in-charge of airstrips located in different parts of the State.
